Criteria For Continuing Education Grant

  • I. For KPLACE:
  • Requirements:
  • Must be staff [or trustee] of member library

  • Priorities:
  • Applications from Level III KPLACE participants
  • Applications from directors/head librarians
  • Applicants whose library boards have agreed to arrange for coverage of library duties and to reimburse travel expenses

  • Limits:
  • KPLACE participants are eligible for (but not guaranteed) grants for all three years of the program. Application is on an annual basis.
  • Unless an NCKL reserved class slot at KPLACE would otherwise go unfilled, only one applicant per member library per KPLACE class.

  • Will pay:
  • Registration cost of regular KPLACE housing as given on application or no housing rate (applicant must pay difference for special room arrangements).

  • II. For Tri-Conference:
  • Requirements:
  • Must be staff [or trustee] of member library.

  • Priorities:
  • Applicants who have not attended Tri-Conference
  • Applicants whose library boards have agreed to arrange for coverage of library duties and to reimburse travel expenses
  • Applicants who are members of a sponsoring organization (KLA, KASL, KAECT, KLTA)

  • Limits:
  • One Tri-Conference grant per library per year.
  • Pre-conference and meal fees not included (for pre-conferences, see Open applications below).

  • Will pay:
  • Registration for entire conference (at pre-registration, member rate)
  •            or
  • Daily registration (at pre-registration, member rate) not to exceed the cost of registration for the entire conference

  • III. Open applications:
  • Requirements:
  • Must be staff [or trustee] of member library.
  • Applications must be received 4 weeks prior to event
  • NCKLS may attach to the grant award the condition that the recipient provide a report, written or oral, on the event to system members, board, or staff.

  • Priorities:
  • Applicants who have not recieved grants for KPLACE or TriConference in the past 12 months
  • Applicants whose libraries have agreed to pay part of the expenses for attendance
  • Applications accompanied by a letter of support from the supervisor (or board, in the case of the director) which includes a description of the library's financial support for attendance.

  • Limits:
  • One grant per library per year.
  • One grant per individual every two years.
  • Maximum grant amount: $150 (May be appealed)

  • Will pay:
  • Full or partial cost of registration.

  • OTHER CRITERIA:
  • Applications will be funded based on:
  • Relevance of the event to applicant's work
  • Relative level of support from applicant's library
  • Availability of funds
