Children's and Young Adult Services
NCKL offers support to member libraries in planning and implementing services to children and young adults. NCKL staff is available to consult on collection development, programming and policies related to young people. During the course of each year NCKL offers continuing education workshops designed to address the needs of librarians working with children and youth. Suggestions for workshop topics related to services for children and youth are gladly accepted.
Those libraries participating in the NCKL Rotating Books program receive a broad variety of books for children, birth through teens which have been chosen by our professional selection staff. These materials are designed to broaden the local library collection.
In addition, NCKL participates in the Cooperative Summer Library Program (CLSP) through a grant from the State Library of Kansas. This annual grant enables NCKL to offer high-quality themed materials to system libraries at no cost to them. The grant also provides funding for a workshop focusing on using the CLSP materials to create local summer reading programs. For more information on the Cooperative Summer Library Program go to www.cslpreads.org
